Spring Cleaning Your Life

Psalm 51:10
Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.

I have spring fever. Even though the temperature was in the 20’s the other night. Why is it that during your winter hibernation you can’t see those sneaky dust webs that suddenly appear in spring? I’ve been walking around making my mental list of to do’s…dust the baseboards, touch up the walls, dust the corners, clean out the closets….it goes on and on. But you do feel so good after you accomplish the cleaning and even though it might not last too long, it feels and looks good for the moment.

Our homes need a good cleaning sometimes, but so do our hearts. Did you ever notice how sneaky thoughts enter your mind or you drop your guard with your tv viewing choices, or the words that come out of your mouth are anything but clean or kind….? It is usually a gradual decline and before we know it, we’ve compromised our values and morals.  That is why we need to do a spring cleaning on our hearts, and ask God to “create in us a clean heart”.  Isn’t it awesome that God can clean a dirty heart? I mean, He gets in those corners where those cob webs are, he gets the dark areas that are dingy and dusty and shines them up real good!

There is nothing He cannot clean! We all have areas we need to shine up.  Ask God to reveal them to you and then ask Him to clean it up.   In Psalm 24: 3-4, it reads, Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not trust in an idol or swear by a false god.  Whoa! That is pretty clear. I want to stand in his holy place one day. I have some cleaning to do.

God is great, he didn’t make any garbage. He knew we’d let sin in at times, we aren’t perfect but He made a perfect way to be cleansed. All we have to do is ask Him! There is nothing too dirty, too dusty or dingy He can’t clean! So we ask Him to clean our heart and then we have a refreshed and renewed spirit.  Don’t let the dirty, evil one sneak in and mess up.  Be on guard and ‘maintain’ you’re spring cleaning by daily reading of the word and confessing our sins to Him.  Let the master cleaner wash you white as snow and cleanse your soul, so beauty can bloom in your heart!!

Dear God,

Please cleanse our hearts. Forgive us for letting sin in. Thank you that you are so willing to renew us and shine us up so we can shine for you. Amen
